Designed by Hong Kong-based Ben McCarthy, it offers an assertive character and enduring stability. “You would want people to be able to dance on top of this thing,” McCarthy says. The Story of an Unforgettable Table

"From Dinner to Ping-Pong"

McCarthy’s journey with tables started in a wood workshop in North East Hong Kong, where he crafted custom tops and frames for friends. One evening, his own table became the centerpiece of a memorable night. “A few years ago, I had members of collect.studio over for dinner in Hong Kong. I had just built a huge table in the workshop, and it came to play a special role that evening. We had dinner first, then we drank champagne and played ping-pong on it,” he recalls.

A Table That Adapts to Any Space

"Designing for Flexibility"

The T&B collection was born from a need for versatility. On the drawing board were sketches of trestle tables that could work in multiple sizes. “When I spoke to collect.studio about this, we agreed that we should make a table that we could sell almost by the foot,” McCarthy explains. The result is a design that effortlessly adapts to homes, kitchens, workspaces, or commercial settings.

Assembly Without Compromise

"Flat-Pack Made Easy"

One of the collection’s most impressive features is its engineering. Despite its solid wood structure, the T&B collection is flat-packed for efficient delivery and effortless assembly. “One of the things that I am most proud of on this table is the way that it happens, coming apart and assembling back together with ease,” McCarthy smiles. Using custom-engineered bolts, the three-piece structure is sturdy yet straightforward to handle.

BEN MCCARTHY

Australian born Hong-Kong-based designer, Ben McCarthy, earned his degree in industial design from The University of New Soutch Wales in Sydney. After a couple of years in London and Tom Dixon's studio, he moved to Hong Kond to work with Brith born designer Micheal Young.
